I've always wondered why it's so hard for me (and others, I'm sure) to believe God's truth. How you can know a truth, but yet still choose to embrace a lie with all its terrible emotion.
This is something I'm going to be wondering about for a while, I think, as possibly each persons circumstance is different. But there are a few truths that won't change from person to person.
- God loves you, the way you are, the way you were and the way you'll be in the future.
- God sent His son to die for you.
- God forgives you totally.
- You don't need to earn your salvation.
- God doesn't punish you, He disciplines you.
They sound simple don't they?! Yet we manage to not believe them.
One reason people, myself included, have difficulty embracing the truth is because of a lie that has been so embedded and part of their life, that the original memory wound keeps them from appropriating the truth they need. If all that is keeping a lie in check is skills in communication, controlled behaviour, daily mantras or battles in your mind; it will be a very tiring existence.
I believe

Galations 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

Christ has come to set us free!
ReplyDeleteWhat joy the true understanding of that brings.
I often think the words at the end of Colossians 2 when I think of the bondage people willingly submit to: "Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world , why , as though you still belonged to it , do you submit to its rules:"Do not handle!Do not taste!Do not touch!"? These are all destined to perish with use , because they are based on human commands and teaching. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom , with their self-imposed worship , their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body , but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence".
Its so true that only Christ has the power to set us free!
